Lucy is a charming little girl with big curly hair and her own unique style. She has lots of friends but, Ralph, a mean boy in her class, never has anything nice to say. In fact, he makes fun of her quite often. When Ralph is in need of help, none of the other children help him. Lucy has courage and decides to help the boy who has been so mean to her. Ralph learns a lesson in kindness, while the other children learn a lesson in compassion and Lucy learns to have the courage to be yourself.
This book extends an amazing opportunity to teach your child a lesson in courage and what being courageous is all about. It also teaches children to be proud of who they are and challenges them to learn to be themselves even though others may not be kind. It also promotes kindness, self respect and respect for others. The saying “Treat others the way you’d like to be treated” came to mind while I read this to my daughter.
In addition to an engaging story, the book has delightful illustrations that are full of color and life. The scenes take place on the bus, at school, in the lunch room, on the playground and at home. They are relatable to children whose daily lives revolve around these places. The book promotes 10 ways for each child to help remember they are special and help increase their self-esteem.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It was wonderful, easy to read, and full of colorful and unique illustrations. It is perfect for elementary school children as it gives a great foundation in courage and having the faith to be yourself as well as recognize the differences in others and appreciate them. This book can be read to children who cannot yet read it for themselves but is also great for those who can read on their own. It is easily a five star book and I would recommend you pick up a copy for your son, daughter, grandchild, niece or nephew. If you know a young child this book would make a great gift for them!
